Health Innovation Intern (8-month internship)

 

We are seeking an Intern for an eight-month term to support and work closely with members of the Health Innovation group and other corporate groups at Alberta Innovates on a variety of projects to drive impactful results for Alberta.  The successful candidate will support public facing workshops and events and have opportunities to participate in stakeholder engagements. The candidate will also conduct literature searches, conduct data analyses, synthesize project summaries, and contribute to increasing the awareness of health investment impacts to Alberta.

 

This role will be in-person preferably based in Calgary, but qualified and interested candidates in Edmonton are also welcome to apply.

Job Details

 

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in the coordination and execution of various types of events, within and outside of the Inventure$ conference, including but not limited to, panels, the Alberta Innovates lounge, networking events, Health Innovation meetups, conferences, workshops, etc.
  • Assisting with event logistics such as venue selection, catering, transportation, supplies, and audiovisual requirements.
  • Assisting in the development of event concepts, themes, and programs to ensure successful and engaging experiences for attendees.
  • Collaborating with vendors, sponsors, and other external and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth event operations and participant satisfaction.
  • Conducting post-event evaluations and preparing reports to assess the success of events and identify areas for improvement.
  • Developing, tracking, and reporting on KPIs for the events.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of communication and marketing strategies that effectively convey the event message to the target audience.
  • Assisting in the creation of engaging content for various communication channels, including social media, and newsletters, and the creation of marketing materials such as brochures, and flyers.
  • Monitoring and analyzing communication metrics to assess the effectiveness of communication campaigns and initiatives.
  • Supporting internal communication efforts to ensure consistent messaging and information dissemination within the organization.
  • Collaborating with the marketing and communications team to evaluate the performance of marketing campaigns.
  • Providing general administrative support to the event planning lead.
  • Assisting in the coordination of speaker travel arrangements as needed.
  • Maintaining and organizing files, documents, and databases related to events, communications, and marketing activities.
  • Assisting in budget management and expense tracking for events, communications, and marketing initiatives.
  • Performing other duties and tasks as assigned to support the overall objectives of the organization.
  • Write content for various purposes (including reports, stories, and presentations) to convey the importance of the work being done by our investees.
  • Work with colleagues across the corporation to conduct research and analyze portfolio data.
  • Conduct environmental/jurisdictional scans related to cutting-edge trends in health innovation and ecosystem support.

 

 

Qualifications and skills we are looking for:

  • Current enrolment in or a recent graduate of a degree or diploma program in a related field such as business, communications, health sciences or public health
  • Knowledge of health / life sciences, innovation, technology, and marketing
  • Experience with planning events, panels, and workshops with strategic intent
  • Strong experience in science writing for lay audiences
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Creativity and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Disciplined, coachable, and resilient
  • Ability to work independently
  •  Strong data collection and analytical skills for making data-driven decisions
