Communications Student

We are seeking a Communications Student to support the Marketing and Communications team in Edmonton. The Communications Student will work closely with the Marketing & Communications team on a variety of projects and in different channels to tell the Alberta Innovates story. The person will engage with internal and external stakeholders to build touchpoints, strengthen relationships and increase brand awareness.

Job Details

Marketing and Communications is a strategic function and shared services unit dedicated to advancing Alberta Innovates (AI) business mission and brand, including InnoTech, its largest subsidiary and myriad applied research programs, consortia, networks and joint initiatives. Marketing and Communications goals are to build and activate brand value/reputation; cultivate policy support for AI’s business strategies; expand AI presence/partnerships with corporate and industry leaders; and foster best practices and effective communication systems enterprise-wide.

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Write content for various mediums: website, social media, e-newsletters and assist with implementation of print, video, photography and social media initiatives.
  • Draft and implement communications plans and strategies
  • Assist the communications team members with communications projects and provide support at various events
  • Work with colleagues across the enterprise to reveal and tell the Alberta Innovates story at all client journey touchpoints, including through sponsorships, tradeshows and speaking engagements.
  • Research stories and develop marketing collateral materials.

 

Qualifications and skills we are looking for:

  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a degree or diploma program in a related field such as commerce, public relations, film/video/AR/VR production, communications, digital media, marketing, humanities, social sciences, or journalism
  • Knowledge of marketing, communications, public relations, economics, business;
  • Understand of a variety of communications mediums;
  • Working knowledge of digital media, and the Adobe suite of products an asset, specifically; InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Excellent writing and editing skills;
  • Creativity and problem-solving skills;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Financial aptitude
  • Digital/social media aptitude
  • Data analysis and virtual event engagement skills
  • Ability to listen and take direction and feedback
