Director, Impact Action Lab (36 month term)

Alberta Innovates is seeking a Director, Impact Action Lab for a 36 month term to plan, implement, and manage impact strategies and frameworks for external ecosystem clients and Alberta Innovates partnered initiatives.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Impact Action Lab, the Director, Impact Action Lab is responsible for (but is not limited to) the following:

  • Co-develops impact plans with clients, teams and organizations using research evidence and emerging impact tools for conducting strategic forecasting, and horizontal scans.
  • Engages stakeholders to embed a Performance Impact Management System (PIMS) across their life cycle, as well as implementing and managing associated structures, tools and processes.
  • Supports training, outreach events, and building strong stakeholder relationships
  • Provides leadership and manages projects or initiatives by directing day-to-day operations, reporting and training delivery activities, ensuring impact strategies are quality reviewed and completed on time and in  budget.
  • Establishes operational, and workflow processes and ensures activities are compliant with provincial policies and established business practices and standards.
  • Utilizes expertise to provide networks, accelerators, executive leaders, government ministries, and universities guidance on impact management activities.  
  • Supports the developing and delivering training courses, schools, workshops, and in-school education program set up and delivery.
  • Facilitate cross ministerial and community engagement sessions.
  • Manages budgets and reporting activities, authorizing expenditures within budget and approved limits, explaining variances, and ensuring the timely submission of required internal and external reports and financial documents.
  • Manages staff activities, establishing team goals and objectives, assigning and directing work, monitoring productivity, work quality and workloads, ensuring adherence to policies and practice standards
  • Participates in recruitment and performance review activities, and ensures the availability of skill development, coaching and training opportunities.

 

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in social sciences, management, health, agriculture, environment, or a related field.
    • A PHD is considered an asset.
  • 5 years of social science, research methodology, statistical analyses, and project management experience combined with 3 or more years of managerial experience.
  • Experience working with senior technical and management professionals from government, industry, environmental agencies and other stakeholders.
  • Experience developing and implementing performance and impact management systems at an organizational and provincial level.
  • Ability to define business requirements, functional specifications, and best practice standards.
  • Ability to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships.
  • Strategic problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Planning and priority management skills.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, listening, communications and interpersonal skills to convey concepts and information.
