Alberta Innovates is seeking a Senior Business Partner, Greenhouse Gas Mitigation to be responsible for the ongoing relationship between ERA and funding recipients for a set of projects funded by Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA), and support the delivery of ERA’s intake and evaluation processes. This role will be directly involved with the demonstration and deployment of innovative technology that will assist the province of Alberta to achieve its climate change goals and maintain competitiveness in a lower-carbon economy.

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of ERA-funded projects
  • Works with funding recipients to develop project work plans, milestone schedules, and key performance metrics for projects that advance technology toward commercialization
  • Monitors achievements, performance, and outcomes throughout the course of projects
  • Reviews progress reports, financial reports, outcomes reports, and commercialization plans provided by funding recipients to ensure satisfactory alignment with ERA’s goals and mandate
  • Maintains and ongoing relationship with funding recipients after projects have completed
  • Supports the delivery of ERA-led and ERA-coordinated funding programs
  • Participates in proposal evaluation activities including proposal reviews, proposal analysis, review compilation and scoring, and development of recommendation documents
  • Supports ERA’s interaction with external stakeholders including technology scouting, outreach, engagement, coaching, feedback and derief processes
  • Provides strategic and technical input to develop a technology roadmap and high-impact portfolio of projects, ensuring that the program is well-aligned with the strategic plans of the Government of Alberta (GoA)
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government department working groups, industrial associations, and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective low carbon technology initiatives



  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or Business
    • A postgraduate degree is preferred (e.g. MSc, MBA, etc.)
    • Project management certification is an asset
  • 8 years of experience in technology research, innovation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technology, theories, project management principles, regulatory issues and economics of Alberta’s energy system and the clean technology industry
  • Understanding of the Government of Alberta’s and Canada’s energy and environment related strategies, strategic business plans, policy frameworks and relevant legislation
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail that reflects ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks, competing agendas and heavy client demands
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, senior leaders and external partners
  • Ability to facilitate and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven knowledge of scientific, engineering, business, and project management principles
  • Ability to be tactful, diplomatic and persuasive
  • Flexible and adaptable to the dynamic and changing environment
  • Strategic thinker and results oriented; ability to identify innovative solutions to complex issues
  • Proven analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Research, writing and editing skills
  • Ability to travel as required
