Senior Business Partner, Health Innovation

The Health Innovation team at Alberta Innovates is on a mission to strengthen economic competitiveness and enhance the well-being of people living in Alberta by cultivating a health innovation ecosystem that excels at converting research and technology into sustainable human-centered care. To achieve this, we need an ecosystem full of highly qualified and skilled personnel (HQSP) with innovation mindsets and skillsets. Alberta Innovates is seeking a Senior Business Partner to play a key role in revolutionizing our HQSP programs to help grow Alberta’s Health Innovation ecosystem. This position is expected to act proactively in the interests of Albertans, ensuring investments move towards impact and generate economic and health benefits for the province.

Intrigued? Here’s some more information about the position:

  • Leads and manages health research and innovation programming in alignment with Alberta Innovates strategic objectives.  This covers the complete investment lifecycle, from identifying potential clients, advising and facilitating client readiness, and pro-active investment oversight to drive intended outcomes.
  • Acts as a resource for stakeholders to overcome talent barriers and creates value-add relationships or partnerships to maximize investment impacts for the benefit of Albertans. 
  • Gathers and analyzes scientific literature, business intelligence, and industry trends.  Identifies challenges and opportunities, prepares business cases, implements programming to support health innovation in the province.
  • Contributes to program and portfolio evaluation and measurement by developing strategies and reporting tools for implementation across the portfolios.
  • Works closely with the Health team and Alberta Innovates Communications colleagues to communicate the value and impacts of our investments internally and externally.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. A post-graduate level degree is preferred. Different combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience
  • 3-5 years of experience working with stakeholders to identify and address talent needs and opportunities in high-tech or knowledge-intense sectors;
  • A high degree of demonstratable knowledge with regards to emerging talent issues, trends, technological advances, and their application to developing healthy innovation ecosystems.
  • Broad knowledge of the health innovation ecosystem in Alberta.
  • Ability to identify strategic opportunities and plan actions that align with business goals.
  • Project/program management skills.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage resources, time, stress and work under pressure and high demands.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Relationship management skills incorporating negotiation techniques.
  • Self-assured, confident and result-oriented.
  • Ability to travel as required.
