Senior Business Partner, Health System Transformation

Intrigued? Here’s some more information about the position:

  • Supports the development and management of major program investments (between $2-$20MM) ensuring stakeholders (industry, academia, government, health system) and stakeholder committees are aligned with and included appropriately within investment screening, selection, and management processes.
  • Leads the evaluation and facilitation during the lifecycle of investments to create value-add linkages and partnerships to achieve and maximize potential outcomes and impacts from our investments for the benefit of Albertans.
  • Supports the design, implementation, and management of partnerships, products, and services, ensuring internal stakeholders (finance, comms, grants, legal) and external stakeholders (industry, academia, government, health system) are aligned with and included appropriately within the development and implementation processes.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with external stakeholders, industry colleagues, government, and health system representatives in Alberta, maintaining currency on academic and industry best practices, emerging trends and shifts in regulatory/legislative requirements, and promoting Alberta Innovates strategic priorities at conferences and workshops.
  • Acts as a resource for investees to overcome challenges and barriers they may encounter as they work towards agreed upon impacts.
  • Acts as a resource for innovators to overcome health research and commercialization barriers and creates value-add relationships or partnerships to maximize investment impacts for the benefit of Albertans.
  • Contributes to program and portfolio evaluation and measurement by developing strategies and reporting tools for implementation across the portfolios.
  • Works closely with the Health team and Alberta Innovates Communications colleagues to communicate the value and impacts of our investments internally and externally.



  • Bachelor’s degree in a health science, health administration, or related program. Doctoral level degree preferred.  Different combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • A certification in Project Management (PMP) would be an asset.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a research and innovation administration environment, health system environment, or a combination of both. 5-7 years of demonstrable experience in a health system setting preferred.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining good working relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Broad knowledge of the health system in Alberta
  • Broad knowledge of the health and innovation environment in Alberta.
  • Considerable degree of demonstratable knowledge with regards to emerging health system issues, trends, technological advances, and their application across the health continuum from wellness, diagnosis, and intervention.
  • Demonstratable knowledge of health system adoption barriers
  • A high degree of demonstratable knowledge with regards to trends and issues in health research and innovation.
  • Demonstratable experience establishing and maintaining good working relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of health technology development stages, including regulatory and adoption pathways. 
  • Knowledge of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion principles related to research and innovation
  • Ability to identify strategic opportunities and plan actions that align with business plan goals to address issues and priorities.
  • Knowledge of political / government structures and processes.
  • Project / program management skills.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage resources, time, stress and work under pressure and high demands.
  • Ability to manage and respond to change and work in a team environment.
