Accountant

 

Alberta Innovates (AI) is seeking an Accountant responsible for providing support to the InnoTech financial team by managing daily accounting tasks.  This position will be responsible for reviewing revenue agreements for several business areas to determine when invoices need to be issued, creating, and sending the invoice to the customer on a timely basis with a follow-up for collection purposes.

Intrigued? Here’s some more information about the position: 

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Accountant will be working with the financial analyst on entering journal entries, maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records through data entry and reconciliation along with assisting with month end and year end activities. This position will require you to be well-versed in accounting principles and work comfortably with numbers and attention to detail.

The successful incumbent will be accountable for (but not limited to) the following: 

 

  • Create accounts receivable invoices as per executed agreements.
  • Review agreements to ensure invoices are submitted to the client on a timely basis.
  • Communicate with project managers and financial analysts to confirm if deliverable milestones have been met.
  • Manage invoices through third-party portals and assist with disputed submissions.
  • Assist with collection efforts such as following up with client that invoice was received and entered in their financial system or contacting clients for late payments and follow-up.
  • Prepare and enter various types of month end accounting entries including detailed backup.
  • Assist Financial Analysts in the preparation of monthly/yearly closings.
  • Update financial data in databases (sales funnel, forecasting tool, job reconciliations) to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed.
  • Assist in special projects and tasks as assigned by senior members of the finance team.
  • Help improve the accounting function by streamlining day-to-day processes and adding automation where possible.

Educational Requirement:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Working towards Chartered Professional Accountant designation.

Experience and Qualifications we are looking for:

  • 2-3 years related accounting experience.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles
  • Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and accounting software (JDE or other full-scale software)
