Accounting Assistant – Casual (4 Months)

 

Alberta Innovates is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Summer Accounting Assistant. In this role, you will be responsible for accounts payable and accounts receivable duties. This is an excellent opportunity for a student looking to gain hands-on experience in accounting and finance in a dynamic work environment.

Reporting to the Team Lead, Finance, the successful incumbent will be accountable for, but not limited to the following:

 

Accounts Payable

  • Ensures accounts payable vendor invoices are processed on a timely basis.
  • Match invoice to received items on purchased orders or expenditure contracts. Reviews invoices for information and to ensure appropriate expenditure officer approvals have been obtained prior to payment. Confirm account coding is correct.
  • Reviews vendor statements, reconciles accounts, resolves payment discrepancies and issues credits and/or adjustments as required.
  • Review and process employee expense claims. Confirm receipts submitted are in accordance with our policies and procedures. Confirm coding and proper signatures.
  • Records management/filing.

 

 

Accounts Receivable

  • Create monthly recurring AR invoices.
  • Enter AR invoices into the Third-Party portal.
  • Enter cash receipts.
  • Send out customer statements and regular invoices.
  • Reconcile payments to accounts receivable invoices.
  • Prepare ad-hoc customer forms.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and resolve customer issues.
  • Ensure transactions are properly recorded and resolve discrepancies in an efficient, timely and accurate manner.

Experience and Qualifications we are looking for:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Flexible and Adaptable
  • Working in a team environment and independently
  • Proficiency in Excel and Adobe Acrobat
  • Knowledge of accounting software program(s) are an asset.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills
  • Organization, planning, and prioritization skills
