Alberta Innovates is seeking a Business Partner, Agri-Food Sustainable Production to work with our Clean Resources team and its stakeholders to manage research or innovation projects that will assist the province of Alberta to achieve its greenhouse gas reduction goals associated with food and farming sectors.  The incumbent will be responsible for acting as a “Project Advisor” for projects funded by Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA).

Job Details

  • Help establish project funding agreements between ERA and recipients to ensure alignment of project outcomes with ERA and AI Clean Resources objectives.
  • Participate in project steering committees and maintain regular interaction with funded recipients.
  • Monitor project progress and report progress updates to ERA.
  • Review and assess project progress and final project reports.
  • Support the delivery of ERA’s calls for proposals and partnership intake program.
  • Coordinate and participate in the ERA proposal review and adjudication process.
  • Interact with funding applicants during ERA’s application process.
  • Assist applicants during project application processes.
  • Provides technical advice to applicants to ensure project progress continues as expected and corrective action is taken if needed.
  • Provide feedback to applicants not selected for funding.
  • Support the development of ERA's and AI-Clean Resources’ research and innovation. programs by identifying sector needs through gap analysis, technology intelligence and developing a high-impact portfolio of projects and ensuring alignment with Government of Alberta’s (GOA) strategic plans.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government department working groups, industrial associations, and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective agriculture and food development initiatives.
  • Participate in workshops, conferences, cross-ministry working groups, and other events to advance initiatives in smart agriculture and food.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural or Biological Sciences 
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered where appropriate.
  • Project management courses, training, or certificate is an asset.
  • Minimum two-year experience in research and innovation.
  • Knowledge of technology, theories, project management principles, regulatory issues and economics of Alberta’s agriculture, food and forestry sectors.
  • Broad understanding of the Government of Alberta’s and Canada’s agri-food related strategies, strategic business plans, policy frameworks and relevant legislation is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task, set priorities, work under pressure to meet multiple deadlines and organizational goals.
