Opportunity for Summer Students
(Data Analysis and Reporting)
Alberta Innovates is looking to provide a meaningful work experience to a student who is currently enrolled in any recognized post-secondary educational institutions.[DL1] This will be a four-month engagement starting the first week of May 2025.
The successful candidate will be paid on an hourly basis, and work may be up to 36.25 hours every week.

The candidate will be provided with a balanced, hands-on work experience with assignments that include a primary project - and opportunity to engage in a secondary project - as well as exposure to day-to-day operational activities involving the monitoring and reporting on efficiency and effectiveness of grant funding programs supporting research and innovation in Alberta.
Primary project: Working with follow-up reporting from past funding investments, complete data migration, reporting and process optimization through automation in the Fabric environment. Tasks involve data review and transfer of records from existing sources into Fabric as well as data modeling and generation of aggregated analytics. Pending the student's experience, the project could also include the design of process automation solutions for improved operational efficiencies for future report administration, data validation, analyses and reporting.
Secondary project: Pending fit and experience, the candidate may also be engaged in a secondary project. For example, assisting in the development of new or revised grants administration dashboards for use in internal performance monitoring or exploring the utility of external data sets as secondary data sources to inform corporate reporting and organizational business intelligence.

Education focus: Social Sciences, Business/Commerce, Information & Communication Technologies: specialization in data analysis and reporting, research methods, and or statistics.
Knowledge: Knowledge of applied research methods, statistics, and data systems and analytic computer applications. Technical skills: data analysis and visualization - proficiency in applications such as PowerBi, SQL, Python, Excel; ability to create clear visualizations that meet business needs and provide insights; statistical knowledge; database management - knowledge of database systems and ability to manage and query datasets Soft skills: Problem solving - strong analytic and critical thinking; communication - ability to clearly present findings and insights to stakeholders, ability to understand and translate client needs into solutions; attention to detail - precision in analysis and ensuring accuracy of data and reporting outputs; stakeholder engagement and collaboration - works effectively with team members to achieve goals Other skills/ experience (ideal, not required): Business acumen; project management; artificial intelligence/ machine learning training and experience

Physical effort: Light physical effort, e.g., lifts light items (10 kg) for limited duration. Walks, sits or stands for limited periods. Required equipment operations includes computer, printers and collaborative meeting technologies. Workspace located in a comfortable indoor area, with a sit-stand desk and ergonomic seating. |
