Executive Director – Change & Talent

 

 

Alberta Innovates is looking to hire an Executive Director, Change and Talent who will play a strategic role with a focus on building organizational capability to meet Alberta Innovates strategic direction and developing a best-in-class work environment and compelling employee value proposition for our employees.  This role is part of the senior leadership team in the Human Resources department and will lead several key people processes for Alberta Innovates including organizational effectiveness and design, performance management, change management, diversity and engagement.

 

Reporting to the VP, People and Culture, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with senior business and HR leaders as well as the broader HR and Communications teams to drive an organization and people strategy that enables high-performing teams and increases employee engagement.  This individual will lead enterprise-wide strategic projects that support the strategic plan for Alberta Innovates.

Job Details

 

The key responsibilities and activities of this role include, but are not limited to the following:

 

Change Management

 

  • Continuously monitor business and environmental factors, taking action by making necessary operational adjustments and guiding leaders to do the same.
  • Establish and be recognized as a thought leader in Organizational Change Management both within and outside Alberta Innovates.
  • Maintain a comprehensive view of organizational change health and performance, identifying emerging risks and opportunities.
  • Enhance the understanding of change management across the organization through socialization, training, coaching, and the development of self-service tools and frameworks.
  • Challenge existing paradigms and foster innovative thinking to drive change and innovation.
  • Serve as a sought-after speaker and presenter, capable of engaging and captivating audiences.
  • Act as a spokesperson for change, delivering presentations to both small and large groups.
  • Identify strategies to reduce costs, increase revenues, and enhance overall company performance and growth.

 

Talent Management

 

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of current organizational design plans and utilize expertise to recommend job and organizational design alternatives that align with Alberta Innovates' strategic direction, driving the attraction, development, and retention of key talent.
  • Provide leadership in the design, development, and implementation of organization-wide processes that promote organizational health and employee satisfaction.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of innovative and cost-effective policies and practices that offer a competitive employee value proposition and support sound business decisions.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of programs through the development of evaluation processes that demonstrate improvements in individual, team, and business performance.
  • Oversee the performance management process and coach leaders to deliver effective feedback.
  • Develop and implement a diversity strategy and supporting initiatives within the business.
  • Support and coach leaders on engagement action planning.
  • Assist with HR acquisition, integration, and divestiture activities as required, including leading initiatives to better align and integrate partner company HR practices and programs.
  • Serve as the HR subject matter expert in supporting strategic business initiatives, leading projects in partnership with the business related to organizational design, structuring, and team effectiveness.
  • Offer coaching and guidance to business leaders on aligning people practices and processes with the organization's strategic direction.
  • Utilize appropriate methodologies to facilitate and support organizational design initiatives.
  • Ensure accountability for the successful implementation of organizational changes.
  • Develop standards, policies, and procedures to ensure the delivery of high-quality services.
  • Assist the HR business partner team in designing effective solutions for client partners.
  • Offer guidance to employees and leaders on people-related issues, with a focus on organizational effectiveness, change management, and employee engagement.
  • Serve as a coach and subject matter expert for the HR team, supporting their skill development.
  • Mentor leaders in building high-performing teams.
  • Prepare and regularly review annual goals and career development plans with managers and supervisors.
  • Actively contribute to achieving Alberta Innovates' strategic goals through robust people management processes.
  • Assist in the budgeting process for organizational design, change management, performance management, diversity, and engagement initiatives.
  • Supply people-related metrics and financial data necessary for advancing business transformation initiatives.
  • Oversee and evaluate the financial effectiveness of business transformation initiatives.

 

 

Qualifications, skills and experience we are looking for:

 

  • Undergraduate Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related field; preference will be given to someone with master’s degree in human resources management, with focus on Organizational Development
  • Minimum 10 years of both generalist and specialist Human Resources experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience at a senior management level in Human Resources.
  • Extensive experience in HR leadership roles, with a focus on organizational effectiveness, performance management, and change management.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful diversity and engagement initiatives.
  • Ideally (but not required), the candidate should also have:

 

    • Previous experience working as part of an organization involved in research and innovation activities
    • Experience working in complex stakeholder management environments and managing relationships with external business partners
    • Experience leading organizational change and transformational change initiatives

 

  • Certified Practitioner in Human Resources (CPHR)
  • Change Management Certification an asset
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification an asset
