Junior Technologist

 InnoTech Alberta is seeking a Junior/Intermediate technologist for our Bio-Industrial team in Edmonton, Alberta to set up and operate pilot scale equipment, conduct routine physical and biochemical experiments, tests and analyses. Supporting more experienced technologists, the successful incumbent will operate and maintain laboratory equipment and pilot plant equipment, compile records, and interpret experimental results.

The successful incumbent will be responsible (but not limited too) the following:

  • Operates and maintains a variety of equipment including granulation equipment, drying equipment, carbonizing equipment, processing equipment such as hammer mills and various other associated materials handling and processing equipment.
  • Collects, compiles, and interprets experimental data.
  • Files, maintains and records all experimental observations in a systematic, detailed manner.
  • Order, track, receive and maintain chemical and consumables (e.g., equipment, supplies, etc.) inventories.
  • Prepare forms and shipping documentation (and client invoices).
  • Operate, maintain, test, calibrate, and utilize equipment to standard specifications detailed in applicable standards.
  • Provide operational and technical guidance to junior technical staff.
  • Supports project management activities by, identifying products and resources, researching equipment and methods for use in an experiment, and assisting with planning and organizing workload.
  • Review proposals and reports as requested.
  • Monitor, report and present progress, data and/or results of experiments to project leader.
  • Maintain lab organization and cleanliness (general housekeeping).
  • Handle, store and dispose of chemical and waste materials.
  • Adhere to SOPs, quality control, and quality assurance procedures, processes, and regulations.
  • Comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Actively contribute to responding to and implementing corrective actions resulting from safety and quality audits.

 Qualifications and skills.

  • A technical diploma in mechanical, instrumentation, chemical, process control, chemistry, bio-chemistry, or a related field.
  • Two or more years of related technical experience.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated creativity, thoroughness, willingness to learn, and self-motivation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to prepare project proposals and technical data reports.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required.
