Materials Researcher (14 month Term)

InnoTech Alberta is seeking an innovative and collaborative Materials Researcher for a 14 month term with expertise in metallic materials to join its Advanced Materials & Asset Integrity team to support the team’s applied research and industrial client projects. This position will be responsible for supporting projects in development and managing industry research projects focused on metallic materials, with responsibilities including client management, design of experiments and testing protocols and analysis and interpretation of experimental results.

Reporting to the Manager of Advanced Materials & Asset Integrity, this role will focus on supporting the team’s materials engineering capabilities. Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Use and apply innovative technical expertise and capabilities to:
    • Support project activities involving the design, selection, and evaluation of various type of materials to meet client needs
    • Assist in experimental design and testing protocols, experiment execution, analysis and interpretation of experimental data and results, and forming conclusions
    • Support in identifying new technologies in materials to address challenges in industrial applications
    • Deliver oral presentations and written technical reporting on experimental findings at workshops, meetings and conferences
  • Assist in the development and execution of applied research and development projects including:
    • Definition and monitoring of project schedule, budget, and scope of work
    • Management of project outcomes to ensure timely delivery and commensurate quality
    • Preparation of progress reporting and engagement with clients and project participants to provide progress updates
    • Coordination of tasking among project team members
  • Support in pursuit of new business opportunities including development of project proposals and contact with external clients/participants
  • If applicable, provision of coaching and mentoring to more junior staff members

 

While this position is expected to be based in InnoTech Alberta’s facility at the Edmonton Research and Development Park, it is anticipated that significant amount of time will be spent at InnoTech Alberta’s facility at Devon.  Occasionally, the employee may also work at clients’ sites.

   

Qualifications and skills we are looking for:

  • Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering/Science
    • Registered with APEGA with E.I.T. status or eligible for registration with APEGA.
    • Previous co-op experience will be an asset
