Senior Manager, Accomodation Planning and Services


Alberta Innovates is seeking a Manager, Accomodation Planning and Services to plan, develop and implement corporate accommodation planning and services strategies, programs and initiatives.  As the leader of the team, the manager is also responsible to provide leadership to the team and guidance on accommodation services and activities, ensuring facilities asset and other related resources are managed and utilized to support corporate priority programs and projects in a dynamic R&D environment.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Facilities Services, the Manager Accomodation Planning and Services will be accountable for the development, deployment and management of the facilities master plan, facility management program, accommodation planning and effective space utilization, front desk operations and site access management.  The successful incumbent will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:

  • Develops and executes facilities master plan, facility management program, accommodation planning and services programs.
  • Works closely with Alberta Infrastructure, InnoTech Alberta and C-FER to develop cross organizational initiatives, address challenges, and improve service delivery and performance of accommodation planning and related services.
  • Develops and manages the transition of the current receptionist service delivery model to a brand ambassador and site concierge model with a focus on value-added customer services to the organization.
  • Integration of the capital and space planning process with the annual corporate planning and budget process to ensure all corporate resources are planned and utilized effectively in a dynamic R&D environment.
  • Defines and maintains standards, procedures and processes supporting the planning and management of facilities asset and related services.
  • Maintains space planning and utilization records, identifying and investigating issues and providing recommendations/solutions to address concerns.
  • Identifies opportunities for program and service delivery improvements, provides guidance, advice and subject matter expertise to leadership/senior managers on program activities and initiatives.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationship with internal and external stakeholders, cross-functional peers and colleagues to promote effective space planning, utilization and management
  • Acts as a key liaison with Alberta Infrastructure and Property Management to advocate for space allocation and resources required for organizational activities and initiatives
  • Works in conjunction with Facilities Services project management office to support capital plan development and implementation
  • Manages staff activities and team budget, establishes team goals and objectives, assigns and directs work, monitors productivity, work quality and workloads. Manages recruitment and performance review activities, and provides skill development, coaching and training opportunities.



  • Degree or diploma in a related field (Interior Design, Engineering, Architecture/Environmental Studies)
  • 7 to 10  years of progressively responsible experience in facility and program accommodation planning
  • 2 or more years of leadership or related experience monitoring and directing the work of others
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD & CAFM is considered an asset
  • Familiar with capital project planning, development and implementation.
  • Good working knowledge in program accommodation, facility planning and management, preferably in a dynamic R&D environment.
  • Familiar with  project management methodology
  • Experience in customer relationship management
  • Excellent verbal, written, listening and interpersonal skills to convey concepts and information
  • Ability to generate respect and trust from internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent customer service skills and experience in customer relationship management
  • Very organized with strong time management skills
  • Must be able to travel between sites as required – valid Alberta Driver’s license required.
  • Ability to demonstrate strategic thinking, clear analysis and resulting recommendations for an executive audience
  • Planning, problem solving, and priority management skills
