Materials Engineer

InnoTech Alberta is seeking an innovative and collaborative Materials Engineer to join its Advanced Materials & Asset Integrity team to support the group’s applied research and industrial client projects. This position will be responsible for providing technical leadership and client support for the group’s materials activities with a focus on surface engineering and wear-resistant materials, including the development and management of projects and programs, client engagement, design of experiments and testing protocols, and analysis and interpretation of experimental results.

Reporting to the Manager of Advanced Materials & Asset Integrity, this role will focus on enhancing the team’s materials engineering capabilities. Specific related responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Use and apply innovative technical expertise and capabilities to:
    • Lead projects involving the design, selection, and evaluation of materials and manufacturing processes, with a focus on surface engineering and wear-resistant materials
    • Design project experiments and testing protocols, analyze and interpret data and experimental results, and draw conclusions
    • Identification of new technologies and industrial applications
  • Develop and manage the execution of applied research and development projects including:
    • Definition and monitoring of project schedule, budget, and scope of work
    • Management of project outcomes to ensure timely delivery and high quality
    • Preparation of technical and progress reports
    • Engagement with clients and project stakeholders to provide progress updates
    • Presentation of technical information at workshops, meetings, and conferences
    • Development of new business opportunities

 

The position will be based primarily in InnoTech Alberta’s facility at Edmonton Research and Development Park but occasionally may work at InnoTech Alberta’s facility at Devon.

   

Qualifications and skills we are looking for:

  • Education and Experience Requirements:
    • Advanced degree in Materials or Metallurgical Engineering (PhD is preferred)
    • Registered with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.). Consideration may be given to holders with E.I.T. status.
    • Minimum of 6 years of technical and project/program management experience related to materials, welding or metallurgical engineering and related technologies is desired; lesser experience will be considered.

    • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills
    • Strong written communication skills, demonstrated thorough technical reports and proposals
