Agricultural Field Technologist (4 Months – Casual Position)

 

InnoTech Alberta is seeking an Agricultural Field Technologist for our Bio-Industrial Pilot Facilities & Operations team in Vegreville to provide support in the delivery of field crop and Cannabis research.

Under the direction of researchers and technologists, the agricultural field technologist will be accountable to support (but not limited to) the following items:

  • Support the team that conducts small plot agricultural field research and product testing during the summer field season.
  • Assist with small plot trial establishment, treatment application, plot maintenance, data collection and entry.  Plot maintenance involves maintenance spraying, mowing and some hand weeding.
  • Label, measure and sort envelopes of seed.  Handle and deposit seed on the plot seeder
  • Occasionally assist other groups within pilot-plant operation (thermo-processing/pelletizing/fiber decortication) and/or equipment maintenance/repair in the shop.
  • Opportunity to assist with the operation of large field scale equipment: tractors, sprayers, baler, air seeder, etc.
  • Prepare/mix foliar pesticide treatments for application in the field using a laboratory fume hood.
  • Work in a group setting under the leadership of technologists to conduct experiments in greenhouses and growth chambers including planting, watering, treatment application, data collection and entry.
  • Maintain workspace organization and cleanliness (good housekeeping practices).
  • Comply with all organization safety policies and procedures, daily record-keeping, quality control, and quality assurance procedures, processes, and regulations.

 

 

 

Qualifications;

  • Completion of High School with an interest in agriculture research
  • Two years of previous related work experience in agricultural small plot research in Canada would be an asset
  • Able to work in both field and lab settings efficiently
  • Able to perform delicate work with attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Experience in the operation of farm equipment is a strong asset
  • Experience in handling chemicals and pesticides an asset
  • Experience with laboratory analyses including sample preparation would be an asset
  • Proficiency in office software, including spreadsheets, is preferred
  • Minimum class 5 license
