Opportunity for Summer Students

(Field Technologist Environment – Edmonton, AB)

 

 

InnoTech Alberta is looking to provide meaningful work experience to students who are currently enrolled in any recognized post-secondary educational institutions.  This will be a three-month engagement starting first week of June 2025.

 

Successful candidates will be paid on an hourly basis, and work may be up to 36.25 hours every week.

InnoTech Alberta – Environmental Impacts

  • Location:

Vegreville, AB

  • Job Duties:
  • Field Technologist to work on land use sustainability projects such as vegetation and soil sampling in the boreal forest, and a solar demonstration site at our facility in Vegreville (amongst other projects).  This position is with our Environmental Impacts team is based out of Vegreville, Alberta, and will include work at a variety of field sites across the province.
  • The student will be supported by multiple staff across the Environment Division; most daily interaction will be with two experienced research technologists
  • Background Required:
  • Post-secondary student in Environmental Science, Ecology, Soil Science or a related discipline, with experience in field work.
  • Ability to collect field samples accurately according to given protocols.
  • Experience with field data entry.
  • Willingness to work under various field conditions.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Experience driving a pick-up truck and an ATV is an asset.
  • Certification in standard first aid and CPR, bear awareness, and ATV safety would be an asset.  If the successful applicant lacks these certifications, appropriate training will be provided.
  • Physical Demands:
  • Ability to work extended hours/days under various field conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry field equipment up to 10 kg.
  • If the student wants to gain experience with other projects within the Environmental Impacts Team, there may be additional physical demands associated with greenhouse or field work, for example.  But these activities would not represent a large part of their time.
