Senior Business Partner, Human Resources  - Competition #4003 

Alberta Innovates is seeking a Senior Human Resources Business Partner, within the People and Culture department. This is a permanent position based out of our Edmonton office. This role provides a broad range of expertise, counsel, and advice that attracts, engages, and builds our talent pipeline.  It is responsible for providing talent acquisition and recruitment, job evaluation, performance management, and employee/labour relations which includes the development, refining, and interpretation of human resources policies, practices, and procedures.  This role will partner with business leaders to develop and execute HR strategies focused on talent management, organizational effectiveness, workforce planning, ensuring compliance with the collective agreement where applicable. This includes aligning business and HR needs, organizational performance, strategic resources, organizational culture and development.

Here’s some more information about the position: 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Supports the business with full-cycle recruitment practices, including salary negotiations, and the facilitation of the onboarding process. Coordinate all internal recruitment processes including internal promotions and lateral transfers.
  • Assist leaders in designing job descriptions that promote agility, innovation and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Conduct thorough job analysis to evaluate job level and complexity to determine pay bands and job families.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to people leaders on the prevention and resolution of complex employee relations issues including performance management, discipline, terminations, and grievances.
  • Provide advice, guidance and tools to employees on processes and options to address workplace issues.
  • Participate in union liaison meetings, grievances, and collective bargaining preparation as required; foster positive relationships between the employer and union through collaborative issues resolution.

Qualifications and skills we are looking for: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Commerce, Business Administration or other related fields
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience in a complex human resources generalist capacity.
  • Preference to those who have government and/or union experience.
  • Knowledge of best practices in HR areas such as Employee and Labour Relations, Compensation and Disability Management.
  • Knowledge, interpretation, and application of all applicable Human Resource legislation, policies, processes, and practices.
  • Demonstrated expertise in advising and supporting leaders in workforce planning and implementing HR programs and initiatives to achieve corporate goals.
  • Proven relationship management, and teamwork expertise.
  • Proven ability to use metrics and data to support strategic analysis and decision making.
  • Experience in conducting investigations and writing final reports with findings and recommendations.
