Business Partner, Communications
Alberta Innovates is seeking a Business Partner, Communications to join our Stakeholder Relations and Planning team. This role will play a pivotal role in shaping and strengthening our brand and reputation within Alberta’s innovation ecosystem. The Business Partner, Communications will lead the development and execution of advanced communications strategies, outreach plans, and marketing tactics that enhance awareness of our programs and attract clients, partners, and applicants to our organization. As a trusted advisor and strategic communicator, this position will collaborate closely with front-line business teams to craft a clear, compelling, and consistent narrative that highlights program innovations, impacts, and outcomes. This position will also lead engagement activities that foster collaboration and strengthen external partnerships, ensuring initiatives are delivered on time and within budget.
This is a permanent position and will be based out of our Edmonton office. This position is eligible for hybrid work.

Job Details
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Design and implement marketing and communications strategies that enhance awareness and understanding of business lines and operational priorities.
- Partner with business leaders to identify key stakeholders and deliver clear, consistent, and timely messaging across multiple platforms.
- Create and optimize content for internal and external communication channels, including websites and digital platforms.
- Plan and execute events and announcements that strengthen organizational reputation and stakeholder engagement.
- Provide guidance to internal teams on best practices for message creation and deployment.
- Prepare measurable communications plans and tactics to advance joint initiatives.
- Analyze data and prepare reports to inform strategy and optimize communications performance.
- Stay current with emerging tools, technologies, and best practices to drive innovation in digital communications.
Qualifications and skills we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing or a related field
- Six+ years related experience,
- Knowledge of communication trends, analytics, and digital tools and platforms to continuously improve effectiveness of communication strategies and tactics.
- Demonstrated ability to focus on communication and marketing goals and develop strategies and tactics to meet those goals
- Demonstrated ability to earn trust and respect of peers and clients including leaders
- Ability to develop and meet communication metrics and KPIs
- Demonstrated track record of working on integrated marketing and communication initiatives that embed and embrace multiple channels and technologies to maximize return on investment
- An understanding of government and/or the innovation and technology industries
- Ability to make data-driven recommendations and meet deadlines
- Exceptional writing skills for diverse platforms (web, media, newsletters, reports).
- Expertise in assessing communication needs and delivering tailored advice.
- Proactive, reliable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong team player with ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
