Alberta Innovates is seeking a Manager within the Contracts & Information Management team. This is a permanent position and will be based out of our Edmonton office. This position is eligible for hybrid work. The Manager, Contract Management is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, direction and support to the Contract Management team, who are responsible for the management and administration of contracts within Alberta Innovates, InnoTech Alberta and CFER Technologies. This position works collaboratively with Senior Legal Counsel and General Counsel, provides legal and contract direction to managers and executives and works collaboratively with cross functional departments.

Job Details

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

·        Lead and manage a team responsible for contract review, drafting, negotiation, and risk assessment, including intellectual property and due diligence matters.

·        Provide expert guidance to executives and senior management on complex contracts and risk mitigation strategies.

·        Oversee corporate records management activities and implement strategic plans to improve efficiency and compliance.

·        Conduct annual reviews of team structure and capabilities, aligning resources with organizational priorities.

·        Collaborate with business lines to understand stakeholder needs and improve contract delivery and service quality.

·        Direct staff activities including goal setting, workflow planning, recruitment, and performance management.

·        Develop and enforce contract standards, ensuring consistency and compliance across the organization.

·        Identify opportunities for business optimization and lead initiatives to improve operational transparency and effectiveness.

·        Work closely with Senior Legal Counsel and General Counsel to maintain and enhance contract templates, training tools, and policy documents.

Qualifications and skills we are looking for:

·        Post-secondary education in Business Management, Legal Studies, or Contract Management.

·        Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience in contract management, legal, or business operations.

·        At least 2 years of leadership or people management experience.

·        Experience working across private industry, government, and corporate environments.

·        Strong understanding of corporate, commercial, contract, and intellectual property matters.

·        Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

·        Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

·        Familiarity with government or research-oriented environments is considered an asset.

·        Strong conflict resolution, negotiation, and dispute management skills.

·        Effective leadership and team management capabilities.

·        Strategic thinking and business planning acumen.

·        Ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships.

·        Skilled in coaching, mentoring, and developing staff.

·        Adaptability to fast-paced environments and changing priorities.

·        Excellent organizational and priority management skills.

·        Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

·        Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and sound decision-making abilities.
