Business Partner, Emerging Technology and Talent
Alberta Innovates is seeking a Business Partner, Emerging Technology and Talent. This is a permanent position and will be based out of our Edmonton office. This position is eligible for hybrid work.This role will be responsible for leading the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of programs and initiatives that advance research, talent development, and ecosystem growth in areas strategically important to Alberta. This role drives innovation outcomes such as knowledge creation, technology adoption, commercialization, and the development of highly qualified personnel.
The position also plays a key role in building and maintaining strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including industry leaders, innovators, municipalities, research institutions, and post-secondary organizations, to achieve outcomes related to job creation, industry competitiveness, and broader economic, social, and environmental benefits.

Here’s some more information about the position:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Project & Portfolio Management: Oversee funded projects to ensure alignment with ET&T’s mandate, establish agreements and plans, monitor progress, manage change requests, and provide regular updates. Review reports for compliance, coordinate portfolio monitoring, deliver data analysis and status reporting, and support vendors with administrative and budget needs.
- Program Management & Execution: Lead the full lifecycle of ET&T programs and calls for proposals, including evaluation processes, reviewer coordination, and documentation development. Support applicants through outreach, coaching, and feedback, while ensuring accessibility and transparency in program delivery.
- Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with stakeholders, represent ET&T at events and committees, provide guidance on policies and expectations, and contribute to marketing and communication strategies. Keep internal teams informed of processes, criteria, and performance targets.
- Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement by developing tools, policies, and procedures, conducting research on best practices and emerging trends, and implementing enhancements to program design and delivery.
Qualifications and skills we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Innovation, Entrepreneurship or a related discipline
- Project Management and Emerging Technology courses, training or certificate are assets
- Minimum 5 years of experience in program or project management, preferably in the public sector, innovation, research, or technology-focused environment
- Proven experience in implementing and execution of collaborative projects
- Familiar with Alberta’s social, economic, environmental and technological needs and priorities
- Experience in working in/with government and industry a wide range of sectors, innovative technology development, and supporting programs
- A broad understanding of the Government of Alberta’s and Canada’s emerging technology and higher education related strategies, strategic business plans, policy frameworks and relevant legislation.
- Industry experience in Emerging Technology in the areas of Health, Environment, Agriculture & Food, Energy, Advanced Materials, Defence or Aerospace
- Experience in supporting research commercialization
